In this year's last edition of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on the year gone by and recounted some of his government's major schemes and achievements in the infrastructure sector. The Prime Minister also recounted the successes of sportspersons and urged citizens to contribute to the advancement of the country and society.

"The year 2018 saw the launching of the world's biggest health insurance scheme 'Ayushman Bharat'. Electricity reached each and every village of the country this year. Noted world institutions have accepted that the country has taken strides in the area of poverty alleviation at a record pace," PM Modi said dwelling on his government's achievements. He added that due to the unwavering resolve of countrymen, Swachhata, sanitation coverage is rapidly advancing towards crossing the 95 per cent mark.

PM Modi also touched upon the construction of the Statue of Liberty — the world's tallest statue built in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Champions of Earth award conferred upon India, and improvement in the country's Ease of Doing Business ranking. The launch of the first inland waterways route in Varanasi and opening of Bogibeel Bridge in Assam were two major infrastructure projects that the PM spoke about.

"The country's self defence mechanism got further reinforced. It was during this very year that our country has successfully accomplished the Nuclear Triad, which means we are now armed with nuclear capabilities-in water, on land and in the sky as well," the PM said.

He also reserved special praise for 12-year-old Karate medalist Hanaya Nisar from Anantnag, Kashmir, and 16-year-old boxer Rajni who won the gold medal in the junior women's boxing championship.

With the Prayag Ardh Kumbh Mela set to commence in January 15, PM Modi said that this time much emphasis is being laid on cleanliness. "If during the course of this event sanitation prevails along with reverence, then it will lead to a positive message reaching far and wide," he said.
