PM Narendra Modi unveils projects worth over Rs 1,550 cr in Odisha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday unveiled a slew of development projects for the state related to education, connectivity, tourism and culture to the tune of a whopping Rs 1,550 crore.

At a time the BJP is expanding its political base in Odisha in the run-up to 2019 general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday unveiled a slew of development projects for the state related to education, connectivity, tourism and culture to the tune of a whopping Rs 1,550 crore.

This is the Prime Minister's third visit to the state in a span of one month. The PM, during his December 25 visit to the state, unveiled a slew of development projects worth Rs 14,500 crore.

The PM dedicated the electrification of Jharsuguda-Vizianagaram and Sambalpur-Angul railway lines spanning over 813 kilometres to the nation. The project, which has been completed at a cost of Rs 1,085 crore, aims to ensure seamless rail connectivity and reduce journey time apart from reducing the diesel consumption.

The PM also inaugurated the doubling of 14.2-kilometre long Barpali-Dungaripali rail line and 17.3-km-long Balangir-Deogaon rail lines, which have been completed at a cost of Rs 189.3 crore. He also dedicated to the nation a multi-modal logistics park at Jharsuguda, which has been built at a cost of Rs 100 crore.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated a 15 kilometre-long Balangir-Bichhupali railway line which has been laid at a cost of Rs 115 crore. He flagged off a new train on Balangir-Bichhupali route. In addition, the PM inaugurated a bridge between Theruvali and Singapur Road station, constructed at a cost of Rs 27.4 crore.

Speaking at a function in Balangir, while inaugurating the series of projects, the PM said the projects would boost trade, commerce and tourism in the eastern state.

Describing connectivity as catalyst for development, the PM said strong connectivity will propel industrialisation, which in turn will generate employment opportunities.

Later in the day, while addressing a massive BJP rally in Balangir, the Prime Minister said the past governments at the Centre were ruling like "sultanates" and "neglecting" the country's rich heritage. An estimated one lakh people attended the rally.

Third In A Month

This is the PM’s third visit to the state in a span of one month. The PM, during his Dec 25 visit, had unveiled a slew of development projects worth Rs 14,500 crore.
