PM Narendra Modi tweets about phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel after failing to meet her

PM Narendra Modi, who returned from the BRICS summit, tweeted about his phone conversation with German chancellor Angela Merkel, after an administrative goof-up prevented his meeting with Merkel from taking place.

Modi had made a stopover in Berlin en-route Brazil for the BRICS summit in Fortaleza. However, German chancellor Merkel had already flown out to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup Final between Germany and Argentina.

On his way back from the summit, Modi tweeted again:

It may also be recalled that the missed meeting with Merkel was not the only scheduling error committed by India. Modi was supposed to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Fortaleza, but Putin was held up in Brasilia in a meeting with Brazil president Dilma Rousseff.

Modi also offered condolences for the victims of the Flight MH17 crash which happened Thursday evening.

Friday, July 18 is now celebrated as 'Mandela Day', for it is the late Nelson Mandela's birthday. Modi expressed his admiration for Mandela through Twitter:
