PM Narendra Modi to hold 100-day review in early September

Prime minister Narendra Modi will review the performance of his government in the first week of September. In the meeting, the secretaries of the central ministries will apprise the PM of the targets achieved in their respective ministries in the first 100 days of the new government.

As a precursor to the review meeting, the principal secretary to the PM, Nripendra Mishra, held a meeting with the government secretaries on Friday last week. According to sources, the targets set for each ministries by the PMO were reviewed and each ministry has been asked to prepare a presentation on targets and achievements for the forthcoming PM's review.

The Friday's meeting was attended by 23 top government officials. Most of the discussions in the meeting pertained to food inflation, oil prices, special economic zones, and human resource development. The department of financial services has been asked to step up on the gas on implementation of the financial inclusion project – one of the pet projects of PM Narendra Modi – launched this Independence Day. The scheme aims at bringing the poor and marginalised people under the banking net. The government plans to open at least 15 crore bank accounts under the scheme in the next five years.

Finance ministry officials informed the PMO that work is progressing and the government is in the process of identifying the vendors for the implementation of the programme. The department of financial services – which is implementing the project – has already held discussions with the Information Technology services providers for the implementation of the project. Several key IT players have made presentations to the government, according to sources.

PMO has asked the finance ministry to keep inflation and black money on its top priority. According to sources, the PMO also sought updates on the food price spiral especially tomatoes.
