PM Narendra Modi to attend G7 meet, receive UAE felicitation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a five-day official visit to France, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain from August 22, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday.

In France, he will hold a bilateral meet with French President Emmanuel Macron followed by a working dinner. The next day, on August 23, he will meet the Indian community and inaugurate a memorial for victims of air crash onboard an Air India flight, several decades ago. He will then head on to UAE where he is scheduled to meet with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and receive the ‘Order of Zayed’, the highest civil decoration of the UAE. It was conferred on him in April 2019 in recognition of his distinguished leadership that gave a big boost to bilateral relations.

The PM will depart for Bahrain the same day for what would be the first-ever Prime Ministerial visit from India to the country. He will meet Bahrain PM Prince Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. India will also roll out RuPay card in Bahrain and UAE. An MoU will also be signed during PM Modi’s visit to these countries.

FRENCH TRIPPING

  • PM will reach France on August 22 and hold bilateral talks with President Macron on Day 1; the next day, PM will meet Prime Minister Édouard Philippe. This is the 4th meeting between PM Modi and Macron 
     
  • On August 25, he will return to France to participate in the G-7 Summit in Biarritz, where India is a special invitee by Macron

“Discussions are expected to broadly focus on reaffirming France and India as key strategic and like-minded partners, strengthening of defence partnership including future defence acquisitions, progress on setting up of Jaitapur nuclear power plant project, convergent strategic and political priorities in the Indo Pacific and related operational needs,” said TS Tirumurti, Secretary Economic Relations, Ministry of external affairs.

Asked if Indo France Rafael deal will be discussed,G Balasubramanian, Joint Secretary Europe West in MEA said, “defence cooperation will be positively discussed.”
