Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his delight on witnessing the participation of a large number of women in the festivities on January 26, stating that this year's Republic Day parade was dedicated to women empowerment.

"On January 26, all of you enhanced the pride of India. We are seeing girl cadets in large numbers. The parade on that day was dedicated to 'Stree Shakti' (women empowerment)," said Prime Minister Modi, while addressing the Culmination Parade of this year's National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day camp.

"We are blessed that we are a youthful nation. Our dreams are young, our energy is young. When we do a parade, it is our minds that meet, not only our steps. Someone from my school was selected to come to Delhi from the NCC once and we were very proud of him. I am sure people will be proud of you too," he added.

The Prime Minister further stressed that unity in diversity is the strength of the nation.

"Unity in diversity; this is the strength of our nation and this is what keeps inspiring us. I am standing in front of a mini-India right now," he said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi had said that he learned a lot from being an NCC member in his youth.

"Will address NCC rally today. Mind is full of memories of my association with NCC. NCC taught me a lot," he had tweeted.

Cadets from all three wings of the armed forces, namely the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, were present in the Guard of Honour to the Prime Minister, followed by a march past by contingents from different states.

Popularly known as the 'Prime Minister's rally', the parade marks the culmination of the month-long camp, which is held every year from January 1- 30.
