Listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was like a dream for Mohammad Ishaq Cheechi of remote Nathnusa village in the border district of Kupwara. That is why he quickly got into a taxi the moment he heard Modi is addressing a rally in Srinagar. Braving sub zero temperatures, Cheechi started his journey at 7.30 am when it was still dark in his village. By 12.30, he reached to Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium to listen to Modi. His happiness knew no bounds when he saw Kashmiri pheran-clad Modi in front of him addressing the people.

Shouting Modi, Modi… he expressed his love for the prime minister who tried to strike a chord with the people in his first rally in the separatist stronghold of Srinagar. "I wanted to listen the words of Modiji. Five vehicles from our village started early in the morning to reach here. It was a dream come true," he said.

Cheechi was among thousands of people who came from far flung areas of Kashmir to listen to Modi. From Anantnag to Kupwara, from Sumbal to Budgam and from Saibug to Uri, people came in hoards to listen to Modi. Some came in taxis, some hired minibuses and some boarded cars to reach to the venue. Even activists of People's Conference led by Sajad Lone joined Modi rally.

"He is a great speaker. He spoke like a true statesman promising development. We hope he will deliver on his promises. If he fulfils what he says it will bring a new era of development and progress to our valley," said Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, a resident from saffron rich town Pampore.

People from all age groups had converged to the rally despite the separatist hartal and boycott call. Even Molvis with long beards and skull caps had converged to the venue to listen to Modi. "I was told by my friends to listen to Modi and then form opinion about him. I found him good," said a Molvi, a government teacher of Charar-e-Sharief, who did not want to be named.
