PM Narendra Modi chairs high-level Cabinet panel meet on security

As part of the Centre's outreach to Jammu and Kashmir, HM Rajnath singh will also brief PM Modi on his visit to Leh-Ladakh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to discuss the situation in the restive Kashmir Valley.

The meeting is underway at the Prime Minister's Office in South Block in the national capital.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is to brief the Prime Minister about his two day visit to the Ladakh region as part of the Centre's outreach to Jammu and Kashmir.

Apart from the Home Minister, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Minister of State for the Prime Minister Office Jitendra Singh and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari were present for the meeting.

During his visit to Ladakh, Rajnath interacted with a cross-section of people in Kargil and also held meetings with delegations of political parties, civil society groups and individuals and took their views on development related issues.

The Union Home Minister also praised the armed forces and said they have the backing of the entire nation.

Rajnath asserted that the crux of all the meetings is that the government won't allow anyone or anything to malign the name of the country.
