PM Modi plants sapling at 7 RCR residence on World Environment Day

The Environment Ministry has invited eminent sportspersons like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, Sushil Kumar to participate in a countrywide sapling plantation drive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday showed his green side as he celebrated World Environment Day by planting a sapling at his official 7, Race Course Road residence.

The Prime Minister later took to twitter to share the information.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar was also present at the occasion.

June 5 is celebrated across the globe as World Environment Day.

The Environment Ministry has invited eminent sportspersons like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, Sushil Kumar to participate in a countrywide sapling plantation drive.

"This is a good start and we appeal to people that they should also join the campaign by planting more and more trees," said Union Minister for Environment Prakash Javadekar said.

Members of the Indian cricket that is scheduled to leave for Bangladesh on June 7 will take part in sapling plantation drive in Kolkata, a day before.

Boxers Mary Kom and Sarita Devi, cue sport legend Geet Sethi and former India Hockey Captain Viren Rasquinha will be travelling on June 5, so they join the league from their places of location.
