After prime minister Narendra Modi lauded the efforts of Maharashtra government and appreciated people's participation in Jalyukta Shivaar Abhiyaan, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed confidence that the scheme would make Maharashtra drought-free by 2019.

Modi in his 'Mann Ki Baat', the programme through which he shares his thoughts with countrymen, lauded the Jalyukta Shivaar Abhiyaan on Sunday. Modi has said that this campaign would be handy in combating the future water scarcity issues. The prime minister also appreciated the people of Maharashtra for joining in this campaign and making it a people's movement, besides giving money for the same.

Chief minister Fadnavis has tweeted on Sunday thanking the prime minister for his mention of Jalyukta Shivaar Abhiyaan. Fadnavis has said that this campaign would eventually lead to sustainable agriculture that would ensure sustainable livelihood for farmers. He also expressed confidence that this campaign would accomplish the mission of a drought-free Maharashtra by 2019.

Minister for rural development Pankaja Munde had reviewed the progress of the campaign during a video conference with all the district collectors May 20. It was informed during the conference that 1.37 lakh works under Jalyukta Shivaar Abhiyaan would be completed throughout the state and by June 2016, a total of 4,600 villages would be self-sufficient with water. Munde also informed that the river rejuvenating programme has also been undertaken in 16 districts by providing Rs 122 crore while the work for 52,500 farm ponds is being undertaken in the first phase under the scheme of farm pond on demand.

Munde further said that there are 35,888 works which are on under the Jalyukta Shivaar Abhiyaan and protected irrigation capacity of 3,09,325 hectares have been generated through the entire work of the scheme. She informed that Rs 2,600 crore has been handed over to district collectors so far and being the flagship scheme of the government, there would not be any paucity of funds for it.
