GDP growth rate slipped under UPA regime: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took the fight to critics of his economy policies, especially of a slipping GDP growth rate, pointing out that that number had slipped to 5.7 per cent or below eight times in six years of the previous UPA government. Addressing the golden jubilee event of Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Modi also called for much higher levels of honesty, both at an individual as well as professional level. "In the changing economic scenario, honesty will command a premium and the government will protect the interest of honest persons," he said, and called upon the gathering of company secretaries to encourage their clients to honestly pay taxes. Maharashtra govt pulls up Kokilaben Hospital, imposes Rs 174 crore fine
The Maharashtra government has asked the Malti Vasant Heart Trust, whose trustee list includes Tina and Anil Ambani, to pay Rs 174 crore for using parts of the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri (West) for commercial purposes other than hospital operations. The government has also pulled up the Trust for changing the trustees without taking permission from the government. In 2009, the revenue department had allotted 14 acres to the Malti Vasant Heart Trust for construction of a hospital, on a 30-year lease at a token rate of Rs 1 per year. Read full story here

The Congress on Wednesday hinted that the stage was set for Rahul Gandhi to take over as party president by the end of this month, and also that his mother and current president, Sonia Gandhi, would continue to guide the party under a new mechanism yet to be incorporated in the party constitution. Chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the party was currently conducting organisational polls, including for the post of president. Pune: Four stray dogs tied with ropes, dragged and burnt alive
In a shocking incident, four stray dogs were tied to a rope and burned alive in a Pune city of Maharashtra. The horrendous incident took place last week in a Baner locality near Pancard road of the city. According to reports, 16 other dogs were also poisoned to death. The NGO AaCT India (Action for Animals against Cruelty and Trauma) found scattered remains of the charred body parts of the dogs during the investigation. Read full story here

Google on Wednesday announced the second generation of its Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The looks of Pixel 2 would definitely remind you of its predecessor but the 2 XL has seen some relevant modifications in its design. 2 XL has been updated to 6-inch display instead of 5.5 inch. Apart from the display size, the another difference between the two newly launched phones in comparison to the previous one is that they do not encase the fingerprint sensor at the back.  OIS and EIS are both present on the Pixel 2 smartphones.
