Less than a month before the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government completes a year at the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the party lawmakers should effectively carry the government's message and achievements across to the people in the country. The PM also sought to counter not only the political opposition but also the criticism of his government in the media.
The workshop for MP's was organised, a day before the Budget session of Parliament resumes business. During the workshop, Modi said, "The second session of the House is more powerful as you have got more feedback now from your constituencies. This session will be very effective and like the last session we have to maintain high productivity." He added, "Do not worry about the media noticing your work, the people will realise it if you work for them. You (MPs) should be more engaged with the rural poor."

"There are some people who continue to criticise the government. However, we must make effort to reach out to the people who want to listen to the good work that the government has done. Why should we try to convince the people who are bound to only criticise the government?," he said while adding that the government's policies were based on 'rashtra neeti' (nation's policies) rather than 'rajneeti' (politics).
Going on to lament the media coverage of his recently concluded Europe and Canada tour, the PM said, "There was a lot of effort to divert attention from our achievements. But big decisions have been taken as France has agreed to share reactor technology…..and Canada will supply uranium for five years despite facing international pressures."
Meanwhile, during the workshop, ministers of the NDA government addressed the MP gathering on several of the central schemes. "Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani and Sushma Swaraj addressed us on the schemes of their respective ministries. They educated us on effective implementation of these schemes and asked us to connect with our constituency citizens at the grass root level," said a first-time MP from Delhi who attended the meeting.
Another MP, who belongs to Maharashtra said, "There are some 56-odd centrally sponsored schemes such as Atal Pension Yojana and Sansad Aadarsh Gram Yojana that are not fully grasped by the MP's and the ministers guided us on how to take these schemes at the doorstep.
