On a four-day visit to poll-bound Karnataka, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday projected his party's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as "forward-looking" and attacked the Prime Minister.
"I request him to learn from CM Siddaramaiah who responded to the farmer crisis by waiving their loans and delivering on his promises. The country doesn't want to hear about the past. It is concerned about the future. CM Siddaramaiah is forward-looking. Modi is the kind of PM who drives the vehicle looking in the rear-view mirror," Gandhi said. He was speaking at a rally to launch the 'Janashirvad Yatra' of the ruling Karnataka Congress.
He brought up the Rafale fighter jet deal, saying it was the "biggest issue" of corruption in the country now, Gandhi emphasized that earlier, the Rafale contract was given to Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which has been making aircraft for the Indian Air Force for 70 years.
"If Bangalore is on its feet today, one of the reasons is HAL. Modiji took away Rafale from Bangalore and HAL and gave it to his friend," he said. "Modi did not utter a work on Rafale even as he spoke for an hour in Parliament." He also took a jibe at BJP for projecting BS Yeddyurappa as their CM face, alleging, "the world record in corruption was broken by his party's government in Karnataka." Yeddyurappa had quit as chief minister on graft charges.
