In yet another case of political leaders using foul language for opponents, Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Saturday equated Congress president Rahul Gandhi with sewer worm, calling him "naali ke keede jaisa."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Bihar showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while he made a personal attack against the Congress chief.

“Pradhanmantri gagan ke jaisa, aur jo aaj ka Congress ka adhyaksh hai unka aakaar kaisa, naali ke keede jaisa (Our prime minister is like sky, and the president of Congress today, he is like an insect,” Choubey said while speaking to mediapersons in Bihar's Sasaram.

The minister made the objectionable remarks when his views were sought by reporters in Sasaram on Gandhi's pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar and efforts by opposition parties like the Congress and RJD to form a nation-wide 'Mahagathbandhan' (Grand Alliance).

Choubey, the Union Minister of State for Health, is a Lok Sabha MP from Bihar's Buxar.

The BJP leader also targeted RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who is serving jail term in fodder scam cases, saying he has been "cursed by the poor" and "is paying for his own sins".

The below the belt jibe invited angry reactions from the opposition. A furious Congress said the BJP has exposed its "fake respect" for Hindu traditions by insulting Gandhi while he is on a pilgrimage to the Kailash Mansarovar shrine.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav too hit back at the minister for using such foul language.

"May God give wisdom to Pandit Shri Choubey Baba. May the God bless his devotion. It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister has chosen such gems for his council of ministers so that a culture of low language can be developed in the country," Tejashwi tweeted.

This comes amid a series of attacks on Mr Gandhi by various BJP leaders. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had on Friday called the Congress president a “gappu” or gossiper who makes illogical statements.

He had said, “Jis vyakti ka Pappu se lekar Gappu tak ka safar jhooth ka jhunjhuna lekar ke shuru hua ho, woh isi tarah ki behki-behki, besuri aur behuda baatein karega. Ghotale ke guru ghantalon ko har time ghotala hi nazar aayega, desh ka vikas, pragati aur sushasan nahi (A person whose journey from Pappu to Gappu has been based on lies, that person will naturally speak irrationally and illogically. Masterminds of scams will only notice scams around, they can't witness the country's development, progress and good governance).”

He made the remark in reaction to Gandhi’s attack on Modi government over Rafale fighter jets deal with France.

On Wednesday, BJP chief Amit Shah had mocked the Congress president, saying the nation’s IQ was higher than his.
