Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday embarked on a 4-day visit to Palestine, UAE and Oman where he will discuss cooperation in trade, investment and energy security. 

The Prime Minister will also have a brief stopover in Jordan where will meet King Abdullah-II before leaving for Ramallah in Palestine.

 

"Redefining our neighbourhood from a maritime perspective! PM @narendramodi embarks on a 4-day visit to Jordan, Palestine, UAE & Oman from 9-12 February to deepen our multifaceted ties with the Gulf and West Asian region," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted. 

After a brief stay in the Jordanian capital Amman, he will depart for Ramallah in the West Bank.

This will be the first visit to Palestine by an Indian Prime Minister.

On February 10, he will reach Palestine, where he will hold talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. He will also visit the Yasser Arafat Museum and lay a wreath there.

 

Five-six MoUs are expected to be signed during the Prime Minister's visit to Ramallah.

Ahead of the visit, the government reiterated that India is steadfast in its commitment to the Palestinian cause, including the "inalienable rights of its people to establish an independent Palestine state in conformity with the relevant UN resolutions."

Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar made the assertion in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

 

On February 10 itself, Modi will arrive in the UAE and address the sixth World Government Summit in Dubai. This will be Modi's second visit to the UAE. He had first visited the country as Prime Minister in August, 2015.

Modi will also hold talks with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.

Modi will leave for Oman on February 11 and will have engagements there until February 12.
