Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asked Members of Parliament from Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to take the message of Centre's pro-poor policies to the grassroots. Sources said that there were suggestions on forming a new ministry for OBC's but, the Prime Minister said with the NDA's mantra of minimum government and maximum governance, there was no such need for a new ministry.

The PM added that rather the MPs should take forward to the people the decision to give constitutional backing to the National Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes. This body will replace the National Commission for Backward Classes.

The PM held a breakfast meeting with MPs from the three states at his official residence. This was the fourth such meeting he had with parliamentarians where he dwelt on the issue of the OBC commission, Goods and Services Tax and welfare schemes such as Mudra Yojana, Jan Dhan scheme and Ujwala scheme.

Sources said,  "It has been a routine practice for the Prime Minister to speak to MPs, it is a feedback exercise where suggestions are exchanged. The MPs congratulated Prime Minister on the decision to give constitutional status to the OBC commission. He also appealed to the MPs to listen minutely to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's speech on GST and understand the issues."

Another source added, "The Prime Minister said, the MPs should convey to the people that this is a government dedicated to the poor and he also asked us to take the government's pro poor welfare schemes to the grassroots. Further, he emphasised that MPs should play the role of social reformers and urged them to increase participation among the masses."
