Kerala: 'Pink Beat' police for the safety of women and children

The Kerala Police have introduced the 'Pink Beat' women police personnel in Thiruvananthapuram for the safety of women and children in public places. The Pink Beat police have been deployed at a time when the academic year has just begun.

According to a report in The Hindu, the specially trained women police personnel will begin their duty at 8 am and will work till 7 pm manning public places. The Pink Beat women personnel also ride KSRTC and private buses in order to ensure that seats reserved for women and physically challenged are not misused by the general public. They will assist women, children and senior citizens travelling on these buses.  At least five buses will be covered by each team. Places such as bus stops, schools, colleges, offices, and places of worship, are under the scanner of the team.The women police personnel will also lookout for those harassing women in public places. 

City Police Commissioner G Sparjan Kumar will be supervising the entire Pink Beat. Each of the team comprises of two members who will travel for a kilometre in all the public buses. A total of 12 teams will be deployed around the city to keep watch.

Speaking  about the introduction of Pink Beat in the city, G Sparjan Kumar told the daily that the control room will always be for the assistance of women police personnel if they find any person violating the rules. The control room vehicle will pick up violators and book them as per law. The shadow police will also be extending their support.

The movement of the ‘Pink Beat’ police personnel will be supervised by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Control Room, A. Pramod Kumar. The Deputy Commissioner of police Law and Order and Traffic, will review the Pink Beat on a daily basis and the Additional Director General of Police, South Zone, will carry out the monthly review.
