Cities across the nation held candle light marches on Wednesday to express solidarity with the families of the victims of the terrorist attack on a school in Peshawar, which led to the death of 141 people, including 132 students.

Citizens in Bangalore participated in a candle light march in protest against the Pakistani Taliban and held placards that read "keep children out of terror war" and other such slogans that shamed the terrorist organisation for its barbaric act. In Kolkata, people held a silent protest against the atrocities committed and held a banner that read, "They went to school and never came back".

In Srinagar, people waved black flags and offered special prayers for those who lost their lives. Meanwhile, Uttarakand DGP BS Sidhu advised schools across the state to step up their security. "We have prepared a general advisory for schools to arrange for security such as video cameras, armed guards, visitors records and so on," he said.

Earlier in the day, both the Houses of the Parliament observed a two minute silence as a mark of solidarity for the victims of Tuesday's attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif over the telephone and said that people of India shared the heart-rending pain and sorrow of the bereaved families and stood with them in solidarity in this hour of immeasurable grief.

According to reports, members of the banned terrorist outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) stormed the Peshawar school dressed as Frontier Corps' officers. One of the militants reportedly blew himself up, while the others were gunned down by security agencies.

Hundreds of people were taken hostage within the school premises before the terrorists were eliminated. However, the presence of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) throughout the school reportedly hampered the speed of the evacuation of the hostages.

According to reports, the terror group in statement said that a school was targeted because the Pakistani Army targets their families and they wanted the army to feel their pain.
