Person attempting to blacken Milind Ekbote’s face nabbed in Pune

A Pune sessions Court witnessed high drama on Monday afternoon when a person attempted to blacken the face of right wing activist, Milind Ekbote, who has been arrested in connection with the Bhima- Koregaon violence case. However, the person was nabbed by the police before he could reach Ekbote.

Following the incident, Ekbote’s family members and supporters had a heated argument with the police, blaming the police for its laxity in providing security to the right wing activist.

On Monday afternoon, Ekbote was brought to the sessions court for a hearing as his police custody in Bhima- Koregaon violence case was nearing end. After the hearing, Ekbote was being taken out of the court when the person tried to breach the police security to reach Ekbote. The Shivajinagar police arrested the person, who was later identified as Sanjay Haridas Waghmare.

Senior police inspector of Shivajinagar police station, Prabhakar Shinde, told DNA,“He has a criminal past. There are already cases registered against him in various police stations. These cases include murder, cases under Arms Act and forgery. Today, we have registered a case of assault or using criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty,” Shide said.
