PDP worker’s wife stabbed to death

Police said unidentified men forced their entry into the house of Abdul Majid Dar and attacked his wife Shakeela Bano with knives on Sunday evening.

A pistol and knife wielding assailant stabbed to death the wife of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) activist after the family resisted his attempt to loot cash and jewellery from their home at Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Police are trying to figure out whether there was any terror angle linked to the incident.

Police said unidentified men forced their entry into the house of Abdul Majid Dar and attacked his wife Shakeela Bano with knives on Sunday evening. Shakeela, who received multiple stab wounds, was immediately taken to a hospital.

Police said she was later shifted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Bemina where she succumbed to her injuries. “Police have registered a case in this regard and investigation has been initiated to unravel any terror angle as well,” said a police spokesperson.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, said preliminary investigation reveals that it is a case of robbery.

“So far whatever information we have got it seems it is not related to militancy. They have stolen some cash and gold, according to the husband of the deceased,” Sheikh Zulfikar Azad said.
