'Pata hi nahi chala': PM Modi on taking the first shot of COVID-19 vaccine

PM Modi was administered Covaxin, developed by biotechnology firm Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday was administered the first dose of indigenous developed COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin at the All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) Delhi. The vaccine has been developed by biotechnology firm Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Speaking to the media after the vaccination, P Niveda, one of the nurses who administered the vaccine to the PM, said, "After taking the vaccine, the Prime Minister remarked, Laga Bhi Di, Pata Hi Nahi Chala" (Oh it’s done, I didn't even feel it).” She added that the PM also chatted with the two nurses and asked them where they were from.

“It is very nice to see sir. Only today morning, we came to know that the Prime Minister would be coming for vaccination. It was nice to see him, he was very comfortable,” another nurse, sister Rosamma told the media. 

Earlier today, PM Modi took his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. 

"Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS. Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19," tweeted PM Modi.

Appealing to people to take the vaccine, PM tweeted, "I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!"

Meanwhile, the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive for people above 60 years and those aged 45 and above with comorbidities begins from March 1.

Citizens can register and book an appointment for vaccination, using the Co-WIN 2.0 portal or through other IT applications such as Arogya Setu.

Registrations for COVID-19 vaccination on the Co-WIN 2.0 portal will open at 9 am Monday at www.Cowin.Gov.In.
