Parts of south Gujarat witness heavy rains as monsoon advances

Heavy rains continued to lash parts of south Gujarat, particularly Valsad and Rajkot, as the southwest monsoon moved further, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

"The southwest monsoon further advanced into some more parts of Gujarat. It has covered areas of the state till Naliya in Kutch to Idar in Sabarkantha," the IMD said in a weather bulletin released today.

While heavy rainfall continued in isolated places in south Gujarat region, several places in the state, including Saurashtra, also witnessed downpour.

Some parts of Kutch also received rainfall, the IMD said.

The Met department has predicted "heavy to very heavy rainfall" in isolated places in south Gujarat region, Saurashtra, Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli in the next two days.

Some places in north and central Gujarat may also receive heavy to very heavy rainfall between Thursdays and Saturday this week, it said.

As per the IMD data, Valsad received 18 mm rainfall, Surat 16.6 mm, Rajkot 21.8 mm, Gandhinagar 18.5 mm and Surendranagar 11.7 mm rainfall in 24 hours till this morning.
