Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday requested Opposition to accept Union Minister Niranjan Jyoti's apology for the controversial remarks she had made and asked them to let the House function for benefit of the nation.

Narendra Modi said, "I have disapproved the kind of language used by the minister in strongest terms. We should avoid making such statements and using such language. The minister has apologised and the House should gracefully accept that and carry forward its business in national interest."

However, Opposition parties remained firm on their demand for the sacking of Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and continued disrupting proceedings of Rajya Sabha.

Sticking to their demand for resignation of Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, opposition parties on Wednesday had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should express regret over the remarks made by the Union Minister.

With Parliament facing two consecutive days of opposition-inspired disruption, the government has been categorical in refusing to take this step.

Delhi Police on Wednesday registered a complaint against the minister.

Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti triggered a row while addressing a rally in Delhi on Monday when she said, "The people of Delhi have to decide if they want a government of ha***zadon (descendants of Ram) or ha***zadon (those who are illegitimately born)."
