Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday raised the issue of issue of cancellation of foodpark in Amethi in Lok Sabha.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday fired yet another salvo at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA Government that he leads over its plans to scrap the food park in Amethi, accusing the latter of practising a ‘politics of revenge’.
“Last year, during elections, the Prime Minister came to Amethi, spoke for about 52 minutes. In the Prime Minister's speech, I liked one thing where he said 'Main Badle Ki Rajneeti Nahi, Badlav Ki Rajniti Karunga'.
The Prime Minister promised a politics of change, not revenge, but that's exactly what's happened in Amethi,” Rahul said in the Lok Sabha.
Speaking in Lok Sabha, he urged the government not to close the Amethi food park, which he claimed would bring about a massive change in the lives of farmers.
“Ten districts would be benefitted by this, 40 factories were to be built there. All I want to say is that the food park in Amethi will bring about a massive change in the lives of farmers. Please don’t cancel it,” Rahul Gandhi added.
The Congress vice president also recounted his meeting with a farmer some years ago, who expressed surprise over the cost of chips sold in the market.
He said, "When farmers sell their potatoes it is sold for Rs 2 per kg to the government. However chips are purchased for Rs 10 a packet. All I want to say is the Food Park in Amethi will bring a massive change in the lives of farmers, please don’t cancel it."
Gandhi also asked PM Modi to live up to his promise of "politics of change. Responding to Rahul Gandhi's claim, Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured that he would look into the Amethi foodpark issue.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said it hoped that the Rajya Sabha would pass the Goods and Services Tax Bill, a day after its passage through the Lok Sabha.
“Despite a Congress walkout, the GST Bill has now been passed in the Lok Sabha. It will now have to get the approval of the Rajya Sabha before it goes to various state assemblies to pass the legislation. We certainly hope that in Rajya Sabha also the GST Bill will be passed because the Congress demand to refer it to a standing committee is completely unwarranted.
The Bill has gone to the a standing committee for two-and-a-half years,” said BJP spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao.
