Toughening its stand against "irregularities" in some of the parking lots under its jurisdiction, the NDMC today directed the officials to prepare a list of contractors who are either black-listed or have a case registered against them.

The decision was taken during the meeting of the Standing Committee of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation today.

"We cannot deny the presence of mafia in our parking lots. But, we want to take a tough stand now and therefore in that direction, I ask the officials to come up with a complete list of all the contractors who have either been black-listed or have a case registered against them," Standing Committee Chairman Mohan Bhardwaj said in the House.

The decision came after councillors and the Opposition members raised the issue, and alleged that parking fees were being charged by some "mafia-driven unknown people" even at lots which were free-of-cost, like the one opposite Delite Cinema and Subhash Place.

Taking cognisance of the case, Bhardwaj made the decision and said the report should be ready by the next meet of the Committee.

Last year, the NDMC had taken a decision to make usage of hand-held devices mandatory by contractors at its parking lots, to curb irregularities and for effective monitoring.

The NDMC currently runs 116 parking lots under its jurisdiction, and some of them are being operated with zero-fee for the users.

While the biggest one among them is at Parade Ground with a capacity of 1200-1400 cars, the largest in terms of fully utilised is at Asaf Ali Road with 1000-1200 capacity.

A fully-automated multi-level car parking-cum-commercial complex with a capacity of 828 cars was inaugurated at Kamla Nagar last year.

Among other conventional multi-level parking lots in NDMC are -- Church Mission Road, Gandhi Maidan and Asaf Ali Road.
