Mehbooba on Monday flew to Balakote and Bimber Gali sectors along the LoC to meet the family who lost five of its members during cross-border shelling.
A day after five members of a family were killed in Pakistani shelling, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti handed cheques of Rs 25 lakh as ex gratia relief to the next of kin of deceased and a Rs 3 lakh cheque each to the two injured survivors to meet their educational expenses.
Five members of a family were killed when Pakistan army shelled civilian areas along the LoC in Balakote sector of Poonch district. The slain have been identified as Mohommad Ramzan, 35, his wife Malika Bi, 32, his three sons -- Abdul Rehman, 14, Mohammad Rizwan, 12 and Razaq Ramzan, 7. His two daughters -- Nasreen Kouser, 11 and Mahreen Kouser, 5 – sustained injuries in the incident.

"Mehbooba Mufti gave cheques of Rs 3 lakh each to the family to meet the educational expenses of the two girls of the family who survived", said a government spokesman.
Mehbooba also promised to bear all expenses of the treatment of the two surviving girls. She also assured that the brother of the deceased breadwinner would be provided with a government job to sustain the family.
The CM also announced the construction of 15 community bunkers in Balakote area apart from stationing one mobile bunker vehicle for the help of the locals. Mehbooba also directed to strengthen health facilities, including a trauma hospital, road connectivity and other facilities in the area.
The announcements came a day after Mehbooba Mufti played peacenik and batted for talks to end hostilities on the borders. "Dialogue and reconciliation are the only means to get the state and the region out of this vicious cycle of blood spilling", said Mehbooba
