Pakistan wants normal ties with 'important neighbour' India: PM Nawaz Sharif

Pakistan's High Commissioner to India, Mr. Abdul Basit, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's House on Wednesday and briefed him on the status of Pakistan-India relations.

Pakistan's High Commissioner to India, Mr. Abdul Basit, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's House on Wednesday and briefed him on the status of Pakistan-India relations.

According to an official press release issued by the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Sharif reiterated during the meeting that Pakistan wants good neighborly relations with all countries of the region.

He described India as an important neighbour for Pakistan.

The press release quoted Prime MInister Sharif, as saying, "We would like to have normal relations with the country (India) on the basis of mutual respect and sovereign equality.

He was further quoted, as saying, "It is important that two countries resolve all their outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir, in order to have viable peace in the region."
