Even as the democratically elected leaders of India and Pakistan wished each other for their Independence day, Pakistani troops continued ceasefire violation for the sixth time in 5 days. In the sixth ceasefire violation Pakistani troops fired at forward Indian posts along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
"Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked small arms and automatic weapons firing on Indian posts along LoC in Hamirpur sector of Poonch district around 2100 hours last night", PRO, Defence Lt Col Manish Mehta said here today. Army troops retaliated with equal calibre weapons and the exchanges were continuing till last reports came from the spot, he said, adding there was no loss of life or injuries to anyone in the firing.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi took it to twitter to greet Pakistan on their Independence day. Modi tweeted, " On the occasion of their Independence Day, I convey my greetings to the people of Pakistan.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the occasion of country's the Independence day reiterated the desire for good ties with India and called for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue. “We seriously want peaceful solution to Kashmir issue so that Pakistan and India may explore new avenues of ties by addressing this major cause of tension.”

Two days ago, while on his visit to Leh Ladakh Prime Minister Narendra Modi had came out strongly against Pakistan condemning the continuing proxy war by Pakistan saying, it has lost the strength to fight a conventional war but continues to engage in the proxy war of terrorism.
Criticising the comment of Pakistan envoy to Congress Spokesperson Manish Tiwari said "After Pakistan High Commissioner's statement, why doesn't India call off Foreign Secretaries visit to Islamabad."
On August 13, Pakistani troops resorted to firing by small arms and automatic weapons on forward posts along LoC in Bhimbher Gali (BG) sector of Poonch district, in which one jawan was injured.
On August 12, Pakistani Rangers resorted to heavy firing with mortar shells, small arms and automatic weapons on five BoPs and civilian areas along the IB in Arnia-R S Pura areas in Jammu district.
