Pakistan tries another narcotic attack in J&K, aims youth

After guns and bombs, Pakistan-based terrorists have unleashed narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Police and Border Security Force (BSF) have seized 12 kgs of narcotics and two AK 56 riffles near the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah sector of Kupwara district and arrested six people so far.

Police said a special team of Karnah Police Station assisted by the 124th battalion of BSF laid a check post at Sadpora in Karnah and intercepted two Sumo vehicles. "During the search, around 12 kgs of contraband substance was recovered from the possession of Rafiq Ahmad and Zakir Hussain," a police spokesperson said.

Kupwara SP Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar told DNA that it is a clear cut case of narco-terrorism and six people have been arrested so far.

"Four people were arrested on the spot and two were arrested later. We have seized 12 bags containing one kilogram of narcotics each. And the substance will be known only after forensic anlaysis," he said.

Dinkar noted that the strategy to smuggle narcotics from cross LoC was to spoil the youth by drugs and terrorism. "Their aim is to destroy our youth by drugs and terrorism. Plus the proceeds of the narcotics was to fund terrorism in Kashmir," he said.

It is not the first time when Pakistan has unleased narco terrorism in Kashmir. Indian Army in May last year seized heroin worth Rs two crore from a man disguised as a shepherd on the Line of Control in the Bhimber Gali sector of Poonch district.
