Pakistan launched two-pronged attack on India with its Rangers resuming shelling on the Border Security Force (BSF) posts and civilian areas and its foreign affairs advisor formally writing to UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon demanding plebiscite for people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Two people were injured and 15 houses were damaged after Pakistani Rangers broke two days lull and resumed shelling on the civilian areas and the border outposts (BOPs) of the BSF in Arnia and RS Pura sectors of Jammu division on Saturday night.

Sub divisional police officer (SDPO) RS Pura Devendra Singh told dna that the shelling started at 9.15 pm and continued till 7.15 am on Sunday. "The firing was continuing throughout the night in Arnia and RS Pora. Two people were injured. Around 15 houses were damaged in the shelling from across the border," he said

A BSF officer said Pakistani Rangers targeted around 15 BOPs on the international border on Saturday night. "BSF troops gave strong and befitting response to the firing from Pakistan," he said.

The firing on the IB resumed two days of relative lull with Pakistan Rangers silencing their guns. Locals suspect that Pakistan silenced their guns tactically to allow people to return to their homes for Karva Chauth so that they will target them again to inflict large scale casualties.

The cross border firing was followed by shooting off a letter to UN secretary general by Pakistani foreign affairs advisor Sartaz Aziz racking up Kashmir issue and demanding plebiscite under the UN resolutions for people of Jammu and Kashmir. "I write to bring to your urgent attention the deteriorating security situation along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as along the International Border between Pakistan and India…", Aziz wrote.

"As you are aware, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is one of the long outstanding issues on the agenda of the UN Security Council, whose resolutions promising the holding of a plebiscite, under the auspices of the United Nations, for self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, remains valid though unimplemented to date....".

Aziz also racked up the issue of cancellation of the foreign secretary level talks in August after Pakistan's high commissioner to New Delhi invited the separatist leaders for talks in the national capital.

"Unfortunately, India has adopted a policy that runs counter t lo its stated desire to engage in a serious bilateral dialogue with Pakistan. India cancelled, unilaterally and without any plausible justification, the foreign secretary- level talks that were scheduled to be held on August 25," Aziz added
