India and Pakistan again clashed at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) over the issue of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Paulomi Tripathi, first secretary in India's permanent mission to the UN, took strong exception to Pakistan envoy Maleeha Lodhi's remarks on Kashmir.

Tripathi said it has become Islamabad's "habit" to misuse any forum for narrow political gains. She insisted that the right to self-determination cannot be abused to undermine a nation's territorial integrity.

Responding to Lodhi at the UNGA third committee session on 'Elimination of racism, xenophobia and right of people to self-determination', Tripathi said India rejected the unwarranted references made by one delegation to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, which is an integral part of India. She also said immunities enjoyed by social media platforms for contents by users must be counter-balanced with responsible content moderation and norms for removing objectionable contents on a voluntary basis.

Earlier, Pakistani representative Lodhi had raised issues of human rights in Kashmir, calling them a blot on the conscience of humanity. She demanded corrective action by the international community. She referred to the report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, saying it had "lifted the veil from decades of obfuscation". She also said the country's new government, headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan, was committed to the consolidation of democratic institutions, protection of human rights, rule of law and improving good governance.

THEY SAID IT
