India put the ball in Pakistan's court over the NSA talks, saying that hosting of Kashmiri separatists would be contrary to the Ufa spirit where the two countries had decided to have talks on terror.
BJP is hopeful that the upcoming talks between NSAs on terror issue will be held as planned as any meeting of Pakistan NSA with separatist leaders is just "recreation" which can take place later, a top party leader said on Friday.
The leader, who is a key pointsman of the ruling party on external affairs, said the Indian position has been clearly conveyed to Pakistan. He voiced hope that the proposed talks, whose fate remains uncertain following differences over the issue of Pakistan National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz meeting Hurriyat leaders, will be held.
Asked about the "flip-flop" of detaining and releasing Hurriyat leaders on Thursday in Srinagar, he said "a message was conveyed to Mufti Sayeed government" after the incident, but chose not to elaborate. He also rebutted veteran party leader and former External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha's criticism of the Modi government's decision to go ahead with talks despite numerous provocations from Pakistan
The leader said such issues are "dynamic and progressively evolving" and the country cannot have a static stand. As far as provocations like ceasefire violations are concerned, government has been tough with Pakistan and will convey its feelings during the meeting between NSAs, he said.
Talking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's outreach to the Gulf countries and his recent trip to the UAE, he said India wanted to isolate "sponsors of terrorism" with their help and termed the visit a "success on all three parameters-- trade, economy and strategic relations".
