Pakistan ministers in Delhi pay homage to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, say 'we are here to share your grief'

Pakistan Law Minister Ali Zafar said the officials are here to share the grief and pay their condolences at the funeral ceremony in Smriti Sthal in Delhi.

In a friendly gesture by Pakistan, a delegation from the neighbouring country arrived in India on Friday to pay last respects to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Pakistan Law Minister Ali Zafar said the officials are here to share the grief and pay their condolences at the funeral ceremony in Smriti Sthal in Delhi.

"We are here to share your grief and pay our condolences on the behalf of people of Pakistan and the Government of Pakistan," Zafar in Delhi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

 

 

Other Pakistani delegates to attend Vajpayee's funeral ceremony are by Director India at Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Dr Fareha Bugti, Director General South Asia, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and Spokesperson at MoFA, Dr Mohammad Faisal and Director to Law and Information Minister, Danyal Gillani.

Earlier, reacting to Vajpayee's demise, Pakistan's Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Dr Mohammad Faisal said on Twitter: "We won't let the war happen, India and Pakistan are neighbors. We should stay together, let it be love or war, the outcome will impact both the nations equally. Whatever we have been through, won't let our kids to go through the same. We won't let the war happen. (Jang na hone denge, Bharat Pakistan padosi, saath-saath rehna hai, Pyar karein ya ‘war’ karein, donon ko hi sehna hai, Jo hum par guzari, bachchon par na hone denge, Jang na hone denge)#Atalji #RIPAtalBihariVajpayee."

Earlier on Friday, King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and Sri Lanka's acting Foreign Minister Lakshman Kiriella reached the national capital to pay their homage to the 'Iron Man'.

 

 

Vajpayee's last journey began from Bharatiya Janta Party headquarters on Friday afternoon. His carriageway moved from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg towards Smriti Sthal. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was finally laid to rest at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal. 

A host of leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Kovind and others paid their tributes to the former PM. The chiefs of the three defence services - Army, Navy and Air Force were also present. 

Amid sultry weather conditions, thousands of people walked along the over seven km-long route with some showering petals at the carriage. Heavy security was deployed along the route of the procession.

An astute politician known for his great oratory skills, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee won the hearts of many across the political spectrum with his wit and sobriety and was by far one of the most respected leaders in the country's history.
