Pakistan handled COVID-19 better than India, says Shashi Tharoor at Lahore Lit Fest

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has taken on the Narendra Modi led central government for failing to handle the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that neighbouring Pakistan has done better in handling the outbreak of Coronavirus compared to India.  

The criticism by the senior Congress leader was made while speaking at the Lahore Literature Festival. Addressing the festival virtually Tharoor said, "The Indian government is not doing well and the people realize this. Rahul Gandhi mentioned as early as February that COVID-19 must be taken seriously otherwise India will face economic catastrophe so he should get credit for it."

Tharoor did not stop at this, he went on to accuse the Modi government of unnecessarily targeting Tablighi Jamaat in order to justify bigotry and discrimination against the Muslims.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 tally in the country has reached 74,94,552, which include 7,83,311 active cases; 65,97,210 cured, discharged, or migrated patients, and 1,14,031 deaths.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as many as 61,871 new COVID-19 cases and 1033 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours.

the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has informed that 9,42,24,190 samples have been tested up to October 17 for COVID-19. Out of these, 9,70,173 samples were tested yesterday.

The COVID-19 tally in the country crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and 40 lakh on September 5. It went past 50 lakh on September 16, 60 lakh on September 28 and crossed 70 lakh on October 11.
