A day after prime minister Narendra Modi charged Pakistan of waging a proxy war against India, its forces targeted both International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) injuring an Indian army jawan, even as the suspected ultras hijacked a taxi triggering panic ahead of Independence day in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistani Rangers first violated the ceasefire on Tuesday evening when it resorted to unprovoked firing on the Border Security Force (BSF) border outposts (BOPs) in Arnia sector of RS Pora in Jammu division 9 pm. "BSF maintained restraint and did not retaliate," a BSF spokesman said.

Later, Pakistani Rangers again violated the ceasefire at 1.30 am when they fired at Chinaz and Pital area of the International Border (IB).

"Unprovoked firing started in the morning at 0130 hours which continued till 0400 hours. No loss of life or property was reported from our side," said the spokesman.

Even before the lull could set in, the Pakistani army opened another front on the LoC when they fired indiscriminately on Indian forward positions in Bhimber Gali sector of Jammu division.

"Pakistani army carried out unprovoked firing using small and automatic weapons at 10 am. Own troops gave befitting reply using similar caliber weapons," said Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta, defence spokesman at Jammu.

The spokesman noted that one soldier was injured in the cross border firing. "No other damage has been reported on our side till the reports last came in," he said.

Meanwhile, suspected militants hijacked the car on the national highway near Ramban on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Security forces have sounded a high alert as they suspect that the car may be used for creating subversion on the eve of Independence Day.

The incident came to fore when security forces found a driver of the vehicle gagged and tied with a tree near a secluded place. Forces were immediately put on maximum alert to thwart any design of militants in Jammu and Kashmir.
