Pak violates ceasefire, targets 2 Indian posts in Poonch

Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire yet again on Monday night, opening small arms fire on two Indian forward posts in Krishnagati sub-sector of Poonch district, defence sources said.

The posts targeted were Kranti and Kripan when the Pakistani troops began firing from small arms at around 9:30pm, said the sources adding there was no immediate report of any casualty.

Tonight's ceasefire violation came on a day which marked the ninth anniversary of the Indo-Pak truce which went into force on November 26, 2003.

Pakistani troops had targeted 10 Indian forward posts by firing over 6000 rounds from heavy weaponry along the border in Poonch district last night.

"Pakistan troops opened heavy fire with Medium Machine Guns and Heavy Machine Guns on 10 Indian forward posts along LoC in Krishnagati sub-sector of Poonch district last night," PRO, Defence, SN Acharya said today.

They fired over 6000 rounds of MMGs and HMGs from  7:40pm to 11:45pm hours last night, he said, adding "it was heaviest firing by Pakistani troops on Indian posts this year".

There was no loss of life or damage to property in the firing, he said.

However, the Pakistani firing sparked forest fire along LoC, which was controlled by the army controlled with the support of locals this morning, he said.
