Three Indian Army soldiers were killed, while one was injured in Sundarbani sector in Jammu division's Rajouri district on Sunday. Two heavily armed Pakistani intruders were also killed by Indian troops.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, after Indian troops detected a group of intruders very close to the Line of Control (LoC). "At around 1.45 pm, Indian Army had a fierce encounter with heavily armed Pakistani intruders very close to the LoC. Two intruders were killed and war-like stores, including two AK-47 rifles, were recovered," said Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman, at Jammu, adding that Army posts cordoned off the area and launched search and destroy operations.

Anand said that the wounded soldier, identified as Rifleman Rakesh Kumar, has been air-lifted to Army Command Hospital in Udhampur. "He is reported to be stable," he added.

The three slain soldiers have been identified as Havildar Kaushal Kumar, Lance Naik Ranjeet Singh and Rifleman Rajat Kumar Basan of 8th battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry. All three hail from different parts of Jammu. Kumar is from Nowshera, and is survived by his wife Naresh Kumari, while Singh is from Cillage Gam in Doda district. Rifleman Basan is a resident of Pallanwala in Jammu and is survived by his father Ratan Lal.
