The Indian army has foiled multiple infiltration bids from the other side of the Line of Control (LoC) during the last 48 hours, even as Pakistan has amassed a large number of trained terrorists on the launchpads to push them into the Valley.

Seven intruders and a soldier were killed after the Army successfully foiled four Pakistan Army-backed infiltration bids at Gurez, Machhil, Naugam and Uri sectors of the LoC in North Kashmir.

The latest infiltration bid was thwarted in Naugam sector where the Army killed three militants when they were trying to sneak into the Valley on Wednesday night. A soldier was also killed in the gun battle with the heavily armed militants. Three weapons and war-like provisions were recovered from their possession.

On Tuesday night, the Indian Army foiled a major infiltration bid when they killed four militants who were trying to sneak in from the LoC in Machil sector of Kupwara district.

"The Indian Army units deployed along the LoC have foiled multiple attempts by the Pakistan Army to push armed infiltrators across. In the last 48 hours, infiltration attempts have been foiled at Gurez, Machhil, Naugam and Uri sectors. Seven armed intruders have been eliminated so far," said Colonel NN Joshi, the defence spokesman at Northern Command Headquarters. "Operations are in progress at Machhil, Naugam and Uri sectors," he added.

Joshi also said: "These armed intruder groups were being provided active support, including covering fire (heavy calibre artillery), by Pakistan army posts on the LoC to assist them in infiltration into the Kashmir valley."

Official figures reveal that in the current year so far, 22 infiltration attempts have been foiled and 34 armed intruders eliminated on the LoC. "Relentless operations by security forces have defeated desperate attempts by Pakistan and its agents to spread terror in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan," Joshi said.

The fresh infiltration bids comes at a time when intelligence reports suggest that Pakistan has moved 200 to 250 trained terrorists to the launchpads across the LoC for possible infiltration into the Valley this summer.
