Members of Shree Rajput Karni Sena on Saturday agitated in front of Rajmandir cinema hall in Jaipur against soon to be release Bollywood film Padmavati. The protesters raised slogans and burnt the film's promotional posters.
The agitators are demanding that the movie be showed to the organisation before the release.

Narayan Singh Divrala, District President of Shree Rajput Karni Sena, said that if there has been any distortion of historical facts and if Padmavati has been insulted, the movie will not be allowed to released.

Divrala claimed that Padmavati is shown as a beloved of Khilji, which is distortion of important historical facts, and also the reason behind the organisation's move to oppose the film's release.

Bollywood film Jodha Akbar had also faced similar threats during its release in 2008.

Protests were carried out and posters of the movie were burnt. In fact, the protests had started since 2006 when the crew had landed in Jaipur for a shoot. Similar controversy regarding distortion of historical facts had erupted, which had lead to non-screening of the movie in theaters across the state.

This is not the first time, however, that Padmavati is facing protests. Recently, when the movie's poster was released on Thursday , a day prior to that on Wednesday, actor Ranveer Singh had tweeted, "Rani Padmavati padhar rahee hai...kal suryoday ke saath."

Replying to this, twitter account @karni_sena claiming to be the official account of Rajput Karni Sena had replied," Rani Padmavati agar Rani Padmavati bankar padhar rahee hain to swagat hai, varna rukawat ke liyey khed hoga,"

While earlier this year, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was allegedly roughed up and the set of his under-production film Padmavati vandalised by members of a Rajput organisation when the shooting was in progress at the Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur in January.
