Padmavati | Don't forget Shurpnakaha's fate, BJP leader threatens Mamata Banerjee for backing Deepika Padukone's film
Days after announcing Rs 10 crore bounty on Deepika Padukone's head, BJP leader Suraj Pal Amu on Saturday threatened West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for backing the period saga Padmavati.
Talking to reporters, Amu said in no uncertain terms that Mamata Banerjee must not forget what happened to Shurpnakaha.
In an open threat, Amu said that the 'Lakshman had cut the nose of evil women like Shurpnakaha. Mamata ji must not forget it.'
The warning comes a day after the West Bengal Chief Minister said that she would welcome the Padmavati crew in her state and make arrangements for the screening of the movie.
“If they are unable to release the film in any other state, we are ready to make special arrangements for it in our state. Bengal will be happy and proud to do it. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his Padmavati team are welcome here,” Banrejee had said at an event in Delhi.
The Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer period drama, which was supposed to be released on December 1 had been deferred following protests in many parts of the country.
The protests took brutal turn when a dead body was found hanging from the parapet of Jaipur's Nahargarh Fort on Friday. Though the charcoal writings found around the body linked it to the Padmavati protests, but the mystery remains.
The police identified the man as 40-year-old fashion jewellery trader Chetan Saini, who had left home on Thursday afternoon but did not return. “My brother cannot commit suicide. He was not depressed nor was he under any financial or emotional pressure. It appears to be a murder. We demand an investigation. He has nothing to do with the graffiti,” said his brother Ram Ratan Saini.
Police officers and forensic teams rushed to the spot but could not conclude anything.
“It’s premature to comment on the issue. Investigations are on,” said Satyendra Singh, DCP Jaipur (North). The police were collecting writing samples to ascertain who wrote the messages.
