Minutes after the Supreme Court gave the green signal for all India release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat, the Karni Sena has vowed to continue its protest against the movie.

‘The cinema hall owners and associations in Rajasthan have given us in writing that they will not release film without consent of Karni Sena,’ Lokendra Singh Kalvi, Karni Sena chief, said at a press conference in Ujjain.

In a clear departure from its violent threats, the Karni Sena has now resorted to what it calls ‘janta curfew.’

‘Just like Jodha Akbar, we call on the society for a janta curfew. We request everyone - please don't see the film,’ Kalvi added.

There are reports that the Karni Sena chief will reach Mumbai tomorrow to hold a protest rally against the movie.

Earlier, the group had demanded for the names of the characters in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial directorial 'Padmaavat' to be changed.

Karni Sena member Mahipal Singh Makrana had said, "We have a very clear stand since day one that we want this film to be banned. The committee made by the CBFC watched the movie and said the movie was vulgar and the facts were distorted. The film is made just to earn money. Along with the name of the movie, the characters names should also be changed."

The CBFC had, in December 2017, suggested few modifications in the controversial movie, after which it would be given a UA certificate. Following this, Karni Sena demanded the resignation of CBFC Chief Prasoon Joshi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
