Padmaavat row: Will comply with SC's order, provide security to theatres, says Haryana CM

Amid ongoing row over the screening of upcoming Bollywood movie 'Padmaavat', Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday said that he will comply with the Supreme Court's order and provide a security to theatres screening the movie.

The Chief Minister's assurance came after the Supreme court paved the way for the nationwide release of 'Padmaavat' by staying the ban on its screening in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Maintaining that states were under constitutional obligation to maintain law and order, the apex court had said that this duty also includes providing police protection to persons who are involved in the film, its exhibition and the audience watching it.

Haryana government have not issued any formal order but had stated that they would not allow the exhibition of the film.

"If someone decides not to screen the film it will be good, but if someone screens the film they will be provided security. It is our duty to comply with Supreme Court's order," Khattar told media.

 

Last week, some members of a Rajput organisation had stag a d protest against the film in Ambala and said they will burn down the theatres if Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie is screened in the theatres. 

However, the Gujarat Multiplex Association has already decided not to screen the film across the state as everyone is scared.

On Sunday, hundreds of members of the Karni Sena from Gautam Budh Nagar, vandalised the Delhi Noida Direct Toll Plaza, leading to a massive tailback of vehicles till south extension. Whereas, protestors resorted to violence and targeted public properties in Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh moved the Supreme Court seeking a recall of its January 18 order.
