While Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Padmaavat is doing well at the box-office across the country, various organisations representing Rajput community on Saturday stated that they will ensure that the movie is not played in theatres in Gujarat.

Rajba Jhala of Rajput Karni Sena said that efforts were being made by Bhansali and his team to give the impression that Rajputs do not have any issues with the movie anymore.

"Various messages have been circulating in the media that the National Karni sena and other Rajput organisations have seen the movie and feel that it no way disparages the community and hence they no more have any issues with the film. But we want to make it clear that we continue to have problems with the way Bhansali takes the sentiments of the community for granted," said Jhala.

They claim the battle is not against the film but its filmmaker too. "Bhansali has made it a habit of making movies that distort the history of Rajputs. It is no more about one movie. He makes money at the cost of sentiments of a community. We in Gujarat continue to oppose the move. It should not be released here," Jhala said.

He added that the BJP government was also playing games with the community. "On the one hand BJP ruled states in the country banned the movie but the Centre which has BJP in power remained a mute spectator and did not come out in support of the ban. A lot of the problems could have been avoided had the Centre stepped in," said Jhala.

He said that the various organisations will also approach the state government to drop the cases against several members of the community who were allegedly involved in the violence that preceded the release of the movie.

"The only fault of those who were arrested is that they happened to be present there. The violence that occurred during the candle march was because of some anti social elements who took advantage of the march to unleash violence. That doesn't give the government the right to target members of the community," said Jhala.

Meanwhile, Karni Sena members in Mumbai have withdrawn protests against the film. As per IANS report,  Rajput Karni Sena’s Mumbai leader Yogendra Singh Katar said that a few members of the outfit watched the movie on the directions of the organisation’s national president Sukhdev Singh Gogamadi on Friday. He said they found that the movie glorifies the valour and sacrifice of Rajputs, and that “every Rajput would feel proud” after watching it.
