"On the basis of a complaint by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha city unit President Sandeep Khadekar and activist Dheeraj Ghate, the Pune Police have registered a case against the creator of the Orkut community, apparently a person from Mumbai," Sanjay Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner of Police, told reporters here.

A case has been charged under IT Act and Sections 67, 292 and 295 of the Indian Penal Code, he said.

Many cyber cafes where people were found to surfing the website were forced to shut down, Khadekar claimed.

The Crime Branch of Pune police will investigate the case, Additional Commissioner of police Rajender Singh said.

The city police have also written to Controller Certifying Authority (a certifying authority under the Information Technology Ministry) and to Orkut's parent website Google Corporation on the issue, Jadhav said.

The blocked community, having 101 members, was created on October 29.
