Opposition parties met on Monday, two days before Parliament's Monsoon Session starts, for consensus on a candidate for the post of the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
They said they agreed to allow the Session to go without any disruption so that they could take on the Narendra Modi government on various pressing issues.
The meeting came ahead of a dinner that Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will host on Friday. She will hold discussions with leaders of various parties seeking their support for the smooth functioning of the Session.
This engagement will be followed by a meeting that the government will hold with senior members of Opposition parties.
The coming 18-day Session will end on August 10.
