Major Opposition parties on Monday staged a walkout from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly alleging that the state government was not serious on the issue of law and order.

BSP, BJP and Congress who raised the issue of deteriorating law and order situation through separate adjournment notices charged that Akhilesh Yadav government was not serious on the matter.

Stressing on the admissibility of the notice during the zero hour, leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya (BSP) cited cases to highlight that there was "anarchy" in the state and women were unsafe.

Satish Mahana of BJP alleged that there was a spurt in crime after the Lok Sabha elections and the government lacked the will power to control it.

Mahana said only strict action could check crime and not just transfers of officials. Pradip Mathur of Congress alleged that mafia and criminals were "fearless" during the Samajwadi Party rule.

Replying on behalf of the government, Handicapped and Backward Welfare Minister Ambika Chaudhary said that it was wrong to asses law and order situation on the basis of statistics alone.

As far as crime against women was concerned, Chaudhary said, it was a matter of concern for the whole society and the government was very serious about the issue.

Chaudhary said the state government acted swiftly in the Badaun case and also recommended a CBI inquiry as demanded.

As Chaudhary alleged that BJP was under the influence of victory in Lok Sabha elections, Mahana reacted by saying that government was not even serious on this issue and staged a walkout alongwith his party members.

After speaker Mata Prasad Pandey rejected the notices saying that members would get a chance to put up their views during a debate on the general budget, Maurya alleged that the government was shying away from a discussion and staged a walkout with his party members.
