Politicians across the board have criticised the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi for the rise in water tariff.

"When they had promised people that they will provide free water, cut down electricity rates, provide free WiFi they should have added a 'conditions apply' to it. Now it is clear how capable they are as water bills earlier used to be less than now," said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Satish Upadhyay. Meanwhile, the Congress party said that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal should not lose trust of people.

"It is very sad to see that about a month has passed since they came back to power and again they are going back on their promises. I want to advise Kejriwal since he said he would take advice from me to keep the belief of the people in him intact," said party leader, Ajay Maken. However, Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said that this move will instill responsibility in people.

"People who are consuming less than 700 litres of water won't have to pay anything but people consuming more than that would have to pay 10 per cent more. People have to learn how to save water," said Sisodia. This decision comes less than a month after the Delhi government said that sewer charges would be waived off and free water would be distributed to families using up to 20, 000 litres.
