Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused the Opposition for indulging in divisive politics and creating roadblocks in the government's developmental works while lauding Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's "good governance and fight against corrupt and anti-social forces in the state".

Modi said the Opposition was trying to disrupt the government's functioning from Parliament to the streets in the context of Opposition's interruption of parliamentary proceedings and supporting the 'Bharat bandh' called by tribal and Dalit organisations.

"Our government is working to unite people and lead nation's development. The Opposition is trying to create divisions in the society by pitting one section against the other," Modi said, adding that the NDA government had even brought an end to culture of "holding up files."

Modi was addressing around 20,000 Swachhagrahis (cleanliness volunteers) at a function "Satyagrah se Swachhagrah" to mark the valedictory of the year long Champaran Satyagrah centenary celebrations in Bihar's East Champaran district.

Gandhi had launched his movement against suppression of farmers for indigo cultivation in Motihari, on April 10, 1917. The Swachhagrahis or foot soldiers will try to motivate the citizens to adopt community approaches to sanitation issues at the village level.

The PM, who commenced his address in the local Bhojpuri dialect, said the Centre was working in collaboration with the state for the economic development of the eastern region while recalling Bihar's contributions to the country - Gandhi's "Champaran Satyagraha", Acharya Vinoba Bhave's "Bhoodan movement" and Jayaprakash Narayan's movement to fight the Emergency.

Modi also launched a number of schemes including Madhepura Rail Loco factory and flagged off country's first all-electric high speed locomotive of 12,000 horsepower, a Make-in-India project completed by Alstom of France.

Meanwhile, Kumar pitched for harmony in the society along with justice. "We need to spread the message of peace and brotherhood. Even if 10-15% people follow the ideals of Gandhiji, peace will be established. We need to respect each other, especially in today's era when tension and violence were gripping the society," he said.

Bihar governor Satya Pal Malik, Union Ministers Radha Mohan Singh, Ram Vilas Paswan, Uma Bharati, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Giriraj Singh, Ashwini Kumar Choubey and S S Ahluwalia and deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi were also present on the occasion.
