Leaders of opposition parties on Monday condemned the controversial statements made by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed regarding the elections in the state.

Sayeed had earlier stoked a controversy by stating that the Hurriyat, Pakistan and militants had allowed a conducive atmosphere for the recently held assembly polls in the state. Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agrawal claimed that Sayeed did not 'deserve' to be the chief minister for making such comments. "We condemn this statement. If a Chief Minister thanks Pakistan for his party's win, then he doesn't deserve to be a CM," Naresh Agrawal told ANI.

"It is sad that BJP has given support to PDP, they surrendered to the PDP," he added. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari claimed that the statement went against the country's constitution. Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi alleged that the remark went against the ideologies of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

"Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee died in 1953, but his ideology died yesterday," he said. Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah had earlier come down heavily on Sayeed. "Pakistan, Huriyaat and Militants ALLOWED peaceful conduct of elections" says Mufti Syed. I guess we should be grateful for their generosity," he had posted on twitter. "Dear @BJP4India please explain roll of security forces and polling staff considering your CM just said "Pakistan allowed elections in J and K"," he had added.
