Senior IPS officer Prakash Mishra on Monday took charge as the new chief of the over three lakh personnel strong CRPF and vowed to intensify operations against Naxals, saying they would be "result oriented." "I would surely like to enhance the performance of the force and address challenges that are being faced. The impetus would be to undertake result oriented operations in the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) theatre and other areas too," Mishra told PTI soon after taking over country's largest paramilitary and lead anti-Naxal operations force.

A 1977-batch IPS officer and ex-Odisha police DGP, Mishra said he would also want to enhance the training of the personnel who have a variety of tasks to render in the internal security domain. Mishra, who took charge of his office at the Central Reserve Police Force headquarters here after his name was announced for the post by the government last week, will have a 14-month tenure till February, 2016.

Mishra was till now serving as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Union Home Ministry.

"We would like to replicate the success stories of not only Odisha but other states in combating the LWE challenge," he said as he made his intentions clear of travelling to a maximum number of CRPF locations in the Maoist grid.
Officials said the Director General is expected to tour Chhattisgarh soon where the Naxals recently carried out an encounter and killed 14 troopers.

The post of CRPF DG has been lying vacant for over a fortnight after incumbent Dilip Trivedi had retired on November 30. The paramilitary force is the mainstay for anti-Naxal operations and Mishra has himself spearheaded the battle when he was the Odisha police head.

The force is facing a number of challenges, especially in the LWE strongholds, particularly in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh among others, and three committees have been formed by the government in recent past to fine-tune the operational efficacy and modernisation of the force in this domain.
